(the aboriginal word for Koala is written as Karbor but pronounced ‘Koobaroo’). She was born on Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia and later removed as part of a state-run program to manage the overcrowded population. Maru acquired Koobaroo in 2007 and we hope to breed from her in the future. ‘Koobs’ as she is affectionately known by the staff, sustained minor radiant heat damage in the fire that devastated the main Maru buildings in January 2009, but has recovered well.
