 | born 2007, female These young Tasmanian Devil females were imported in 2009 from a park in Tasmania with the hope of breeding from them. Tasmanian Devil Facial Disease is rampant in the wild population and is often fatal. Government research is currently being conducted in an effort to prevent the disease from destroying this native animal. Captive breeding efforts in zoos and parks are therefore very important in the endeavor to preserve their species. The Tasmanian Devil is now listed as en endangered species. |

 | born July 2001, female & 2 males These three dingoes are siblings from the same litter. Lily is a shy girl who will only allow certain handlers near her. Patch was named for his thick rough coat, and Zac is his brother. Both of the males were trained to walk on a collar and lead, and entertain school groups and visitors during keeper talks. They can also be seen at times being walked by keepers around Maru to meet guests. |

 | born November 2006, female Wilma the wombat was bred and born at Maru and is pictured here at just a few months old. She is the third wombat to be bred at Maru by parents ‘Mama’ and ‘Papa’. Wilma was trained to walk on a harness and lead so that she can be brought out for educational talks. |

 | born around 1977, male Our freshwater crocodile came from another animal park many years ago and is well over 30 years old. Visitors often do not believe that he is real, as he is not very active. However, if you were to enter his pen you would quickly discover just how fast on his feet Snapper can be! |

 | born April 2005, female Honey is a golden-coloured Brushtail Possum, who is often mistaken as being albino. Her coat colour while occurring naturally is extremely rare in wild possums. Honey was bred, born and hand-raised at Maru. She is also trained to wear a harness and lead and can be seen regularly out for keeper talks at weekends and holidays at Maru. |

 | born 1987, male Ruth Heffer original acquired our donkey, Taffy, many years ago who now enjoys his time with his paddock mate, Cory the pony. Taffy does not enjoy separation from Cory and will bellow loudly until they are reunited! |

 | born June 1993, male Ruth acquired our Shetland Pony many years ago and he runs in the paddock with Taffy. Cory is broken to saddle and harness and also has a jinker that from time to time Ruth sets up and enjoys a little ‘ride’ around Maru much to the delight of children that she invites to join in the fun.
